Jacob is a highly regarded criminal lawyer with expertise in ACT and NSW law.

He has represented clients in some of Canberra’s most high-profile cases, including on charges of murder, attempted murder, drug importation and sexual assault.

Jacob has a particular focus on the nexus between criminal offending and mental health impairment, and has defended countless matters on that basis, including by obtaining orders for dismissal and diversion to the ACT Mental Health Tribunal. In addition to acting for clients charged with serious and violent offences in the NSW District Court, ACT Supreme Court and ACT Court of Appeal, Jacob regularly appears in the ACT Magistrates Court and Queanbeyan Local Court in relation to traffic and driving-related offences, drug offences and protection orders.

Having practiced exclusively in criminal law since starting his career in Queensland at what was formally Australia’s largest criminal law firm, Jacob has built a strong reputation as a fierce advocate and dedicated defence solicitor. He spent two years practising as the Children’s Court solicitor for Legal Aid ACT before moving back into private practice, where he was the director of a boutique criminal law firm in Canberra.

Jacob holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of International Business from Griffith University. He is a member of the ACT Law Society’s Criminal Law Committee and an academic tutor at the Australian National University. Jacob is also a legal officer for the Royal Australian Air Force Reserves.

Outside of work, Jacob enjoys travelling, snowboarding and playing any and all types of sport. Although he has retired from his third-grade rugby career for Tuggeranong Vikings, he still commits to the occasional Saturday in the sun playing for the Weston Creek and Molonglo Cricket Club. Jacob is also a tireless supporter of the Brisbane Broncos and continues to pledge his allegiance to the team, despite them being the recipient of the Wooden Spoon in 2020.

It is not the nature of your problem that will dictate the outcome, but how your story is presented.
